Lena E. Torgerson, M.A., CC-AASP*

Lena is a Sport Psy Consultant and a Mental Skills Coach with Sport Psy. Lena is also a lecturer at San Francisco State University at Department of Kinesiology. She teaches: Fitness and Conditioning (Kin 124); Jogging (Kin 139) and Peak Performance (Kin 331).

Lena received her education at San Francisco State University (SFSU) – B.A. in Psychology, and John F. Kennedy University (JFKU) – M.A. in Sport Psychology.  While attending JFKU, Lena completed two masters’ level certificates in Exercise and Sport Performance and Sport Management.

Lena wrote her thesis entitled: Aggression in "in-house" vs. pro-hockey: A quantitative and qualitative analysis. 

Lena has worked with youth teaching Life Skills and with individuals/teams on their Mental Game. Some of areas that Lena has worked with are: Baseball, Gymnastics, Martial Arts, Snowbaording, Soccer, Softball, Tennis, Track and Field, and Volleyball.

Lena is a member of the American Psychological Association – Division 47 (APA – Div.47) and the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP).  Lena is also a Certified Consultant with AASP (provisionally).

Lena has attended the annual conference held by AASP in Vancouver, Canada, 2005.  At this conference, a study was presented which Lena helped prepare: Stress, Is It Really Stressful?: Predictions of Children’s Appraisal of Stress from Self-Determination Theory and Achievement Goal Theory.  (Kim, M.S., Destani, F., Gershteyn, L., Buckle, M., & Supnet, B., 2005). In addition, Lena has attended the conference in Louisville, Kentucky, 2007, Boston 2010, Waikiki, Hawaii, 2012 and other seminars and classes to stay current on industry wide information, technology and techniques. Lena is planning on attending the conference this year in New Orleans, 2013.
