What is Sport Psychology?
There are two sides to any game, one side is the physical ability, and another side is the mental ability. Sport Psychology is a tool to help an athlete become a better athlete by taking control of one’s self, which can be the biggest obstacle. Whether you are an old time veteran, recreational athlete or somewhere in between, everyone can benefit from working on the mental side of the game with a Sport Psychology Consultant to reach optimal performance. Especially if you have gone to a game/practice/performance, etc. and at the end thought to yourself “I could have done better…”
The mental side of the game can be the deciding point between a good athlete/team and a great athlete/team. Some of the aspects addressed by Sport Psychology: working to deal with anxiety, nervousness, dealing with the unexpected, setting proper goals, getting rid of negative self talk and turning it into positive, becoming more aware of oneself and team building (in a team setting).
Sport Psychology is not just used by athletes, but also by coaches, parents, musicians, performing art and business individuals.
Working on the mental game helps athletes work on all parts of a game and prepare to deal with the unexpected. While building the mental game stronger, it prepares for the challenge and competition ahead.
By working with a Sport Psychology Consultant it will enhance your performance by increasing self-awareness by including mental skills into your game plan.
The younger an individual starts working on the mental game the more beneficial it is as they are more open to the ideas. This does not mean that an older athlete will not benefit from working with a sport psychology consultant.
