What is Sport Psychology?

Every game has 4 parts to it: 1) fitness 2) tactical 3) technical 4) menta preparation.l Whenever I ask someone how much would you say the game is physical and how much is it mental. I typically hear that its roughly 90% mental and 10% physical.

Sport Psy guides athlete to reach optimal performance by taking control of one’s self. At time, it happens to be the biggest obstacle.  Whether you are an old time veteran, recreational athlete or somewhere in between, everyone can benefit from working on the mental side of the game to reach optimal performance. Especially if you have gone to a game/practice/performance and at the end thought to yourself “I could have done better…”

The mental side of the game can be the deciding point between a good athlete and a great athlete.  Few examples of topics covered by Sport Psychology: working to deal with anxiety, nervousness, dealing with the unexpected, setting proper goals, positive thinking, relaxation, becoming more aware of oneself and team building (in a team setting).

Sport Psy is not just used by athletes. It is also used by coaches, parents, musicians, performing art and business professionals.

Working with Sport Psy helps athletes work on all parts of a game and prepare to deal with the unexpected.  While building the mental game stronger, it prepares for the challenge and competition ahead.

The younger an individual starts working on the mental game the better. Mental training needs to be trained just as physical, tactical and technical! Older athlete will benefit from training with Sport Psy just as young one's do.
